The Dodgers!
I say that with a mix of awe and astonishment. I’m a San Francisco Giants fan — been that way since the fourth grade when Mr. McDaniels impressed upon me the baseball club that coincidentally shares the same name as the baseball club of my birthtown — the Lotte Giants who represent Busan.
To say that I’ve been to the Dodgers stadium without ever stepping foot on Candlestick or even their new park — well, I’ll admit I was a little ashamed. I was also excited to get a chance to have a private tour that doubled as an engagement shoot. We got to see a wall of names that listed every Dodgers player to ever wear the jersey. I learned that the Dodgers were originally called the Bridegrooms, and that the Dodgers name originated from the fact that Brooklyn had so many railcars, people living in Brooklyn were called trolley dodgers.
The team moved from Brooklyn to California and split the state with another team that left New York, the team formerly known as the New York Giants.
It was an interesting day that felt like a field trip — educational, exciting, and full of experiences. It was a nice backdrop for Daniel and Esther who have the distinction of having engagement photos set in a landmark stadium for a team whose history in baseball is quite legendary. I still remember Kirk Gibson hitting that homerun in the World Series. As he rounded the bases, he pumped his arm in that 80s fashion. My San Francisco Giants are still rivals of these Dodgers, and we finally got our World Series win in 2010, but I am glad to have been able to get an appreciation for that old Dodger blue.
