I wish you could meet Dr. Brian Smoot. Whenever I ask him how his baby daughter Sophia is doing, his face can barely contain that smile. He starts to answer the question, and usually manages to complete a sentence, though I somehow feel he's grasping for the words that can fully express all that he's thinking. It's like when you're in love with someone, and someone's asked you why, or what's so special about that person. When Dr. Smoot talks about his daughter, he gets caught up -- his sentences sort of trail off, and he stares off into space, or at least that's what it looks like. I know his mind's...

She wanted to schedule a shoot with me, and we set a date for some photographs to be taken in Monterey. It was the first time I would meet Jean's husband and their toddler, the precocious Megan. I've known Jean for years -- we went to the same church, and her brother Sam is a hero of sorts to a circle of friends. Monica called me after winning a silent auction at a local elementary school. I had donated a session and some prints, and Monica bid on the package because she had seen photographs from the session I did with the Smoots. After I learned Monica's last name, I asked her if she related to Rudy, another client and a member of the networking group I'm involved with. That's my brother-in-law, she told me. It was then she realized that he had referred me to her once before. Monica participates in a lot of runs, and she wanted to get a photographer for one of the events she ran in. What a small world! Jim's now older, wiser, a husband, and now a father of a newborn baby. Jim and Melissa welcomed the newest member of the Song family, Madison, into the world, and Melissa wanted to get some photographs showing four generations of her side of the family.
